Truly beautiful, antique, pair, Cambodian Silver, elephants (Mother and baby) betel nut boxes. There is a mother and baby elephant in this pair. Made in the traditional Khmer silver work. Made around the turn of the century. Each box is hand-formed of sheet silver and then hand chased and repousse added over copper. This betel boxes have a lot of detail, right down to the tusks. These boxes traditionally held betel leaves, nuts, leaves, tobacco and/ or ointments. Original condition. I made no attempt to clean as can be seen in the pictures of some residue at the bottom inside. Very rare to find this large size. Your chance to own a piece of history and beauty.
Measurements: approx Mother one 8" long x 7 1/2" tall x 4" wide. Baby is 6" long x 5 1/4" tall x 3" wide.
Marks: I couldn't find any marks, but there is so much decoration that I might be overlooking it.
This boxes are in good antique condition. Has typical signs of use such as light surface scratches and residue (as mentioned earlier). No obvious damage.
