Antique, silver quadruple plate, covered butter/ cheese dish with dome cover by Forbes Silver Co circa late 1800s. The body is lobed in a pumpkin style. The dome features a floral leaf engraved design and a coronet style finial. Lovely piece of history to use or display.
Measurements: approx 5 1/4" tall with lid, 2 1/2" tall at it's tallest without lid. 6" diameter body x 7 1/2" wide handle to handle.
Makers Mark: Forbes Silver Co Quadruple 223 engraved underneath by previous owner is "dev"
This bowl is in good antique condition for it's age and use with expected signs of wear and use. Does have some wear on some of the raised part of the lid and handles. Some areas of stubborn tarnish. Still shiny and brilliant overall. The inside bottom has some scratches which looks consistent with ice being used to keep the butter chilled. Top part of one of the knife holders has broken off (see pics), but can still easily hold a knife without issue. No other obvious damage I can see.
